One hire can mask a structural problem for a while
A strong individual hire can carry a team through gaps in process, unclear role definitions, or thin support, simply by being capable enough to compensate for them. That can look like success for a period of time, right up until that person leaves and the underlying gaps are exposed all at once.
Durability is a property of the team, not any one person on it
A team built to last is one where the roles, the support structure, and the knowledge are not concentrated in a single person, so that turnover, which is normal and expected over time, does not threaten the whole team's ability to function.
Long-term team building is a separate goal from filling a role
Filling an open role and building a team that will hold together for years are related goals, but they are not the same goal, and optimizing only for the first one, the fastest, most capable person to fill the seat, does not automatically produce the second.
